The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Church of the Resurrection, is situated within the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is where Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, and also contains the place where Jesus is said to have been buried and resurrected. Within the Church are the last four Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa, representing the final episodes of Jesus' Passion. The Church has been an important Christian pilgrimage destination since at least the fourth century, as the traditional site of the resurrection of Christ. Inside the church is a stairway climbing to Calvary, traditionally regarded as the site of Jesus' crucifixion by the Romans. Just near the entrance to the church is the Stone of Anointing which is believed to be the spot where Jesus' body was prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea.

“...This church has a calm and quite feel about it, when you enter and see all the people and priests filling up the halls one can feel the energy of the worshipers that have visited this place for hundreds of years. Regardless of religion or tradition you can feel here a longing for ancient times.

I wanted to draw the Church with a wide angle, showing the buildings on both sides of the main entrance, so I could capture as much of the beauty as possible in one image. I also made the Church domes more visible from this angle so as not to miss them. It was very challenging and exciting for me to draw this beautiful church...” Eli Ofir
